Ripples

"It is more noble to give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the masses."-Dag Hammarskjold
We all have heard that we have the ability to change the world, but how many of us actually believe this? I do and I hope you do too. If you don’t, I ask that you take a moment to reconsider.
Changing the world seems like such a large task, doesn’t it? Discovering a cure for a disease, being the CEO of a large company or following the footsteps of Mother Teresa seem out of the realm of possibility for a person like me and to be honest, they might be.
But rather than asking ourselves “How do I change the world?” we should ask ourselves “Whose world can I change?”
Stop and think. Whose world can you make better today? Your child? Your coworker? Your spouse? Your friend? These are people within your circle of influence and people who you can impact the greatest.
An image that I think about when it comes to change is that of a stone being tossed into a placid pond. Even though that stone hits the water in only one spot, it has the ability to send ripples across the entire pond. By the time the ripples reach the bank of the pond the stone has been submerged, unable to see the waves that it created. You are a stone that can be tossed into a pond. And you are a stone that can send the ripples of change to banks far away. You may never know how many lives you have impacted or changed, but in the end, I believe it is far greater than we could ever imagine. Spend your energy and time on helping one and in the end you will likely help many.
A call to help one – Richard Stearns, CEO of World Vision, spoke at Vineyard Columbus this weekend and taught of how collectively we have the ability to move mountains. For around $1 a day you have the ability to change the life of a child for eternity through World Vision’s child sponsorship program. I encourage you to take a moment and consider helping a child in need. Start a ripple in the pond today.
